Diamond Burs for Dental Turbines
The diamond burs in this category are for the dental turbine and are sold in packs of 10. They have a stainless steel shank and a working part coated with natural diamond powder bonded in nickel. You choose them by shape, diameter and grit, all given in the code in the product name. Below are all the products in this category (131), with prices from 17.55 lei.

How to read a bur code
The name of each bur contains a code such as 001-018 M:
- the first group of digits (001, 111, 141, 198 and so on) is the shape code of the working part;
- the second group is the diameter of the working part in tenths of a millimetre: 018 means 1.8 mm and 010 means 1.0 mm;
- the final letter gives the grit: C coarse, M medium, F fine, XF extra fine.
The category covers diameters from 0.6 to 4.3 mm. The standard overall length is 19 mm; longer models, 20–24 mm, have the length stated in the name.
Which grit to choose
| Marking | Grit | Typical use | Colour ring (ISO 7711-3) |
|---|---|---|---|
| C | coarse | fast material removal | green |
| M | medium | cavity and crown preparation, everyday work | blue or no ring |
| F | fine | finishing margins and surfaces | red |
| XF | extra fine | fine finishing before polishing | yellow |
The ring colour follows the convention used by most manufacturers; for the burs in this category, the grit is identified by the letter in the code. Most models are medium grit, and some shapes come in several grits, for example 141-014 in C, F and XF.
Turbine, contra-angle or lab
These burs have an FG (friction grip) shank: they are used in turbines and in speed-increasing (red ring) contra-angles that take FG burs. For RA (latch) contra-angles and lab work see extra-hard carbide burs, including a set with RA shank, and the dental technology category. All types are grouped under dental burs, and turbines and handpieces are in turbines, micromotors and handpieces.
Cleaning, sterilization and storage
Burs are cleaned of debris before sterilization; this category includes a bur cleaning brush, 19×72 mm, with a sliding ring. For sterilization and storage you can use the bur and file boxes with a sieve from instrument boxes and trays or the small pouches from sterilization pouches. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the sterilization method and the number of uses.
Other practice supplies are in dental supplies. Shipping is free over 500 lei, for parcels up to 9 kg.
Frequently asked questions
What does 018 mean in a bur code?
It is the diameter of the working part in tenths of a millimetre: 018 means 1.8 mm, 014 means 1.4 mm. The first group of digits in the code gives the shape.
How many burs are in a pack?
The turbine diamond burs in this category are sold 10 per pack; the quantity is also shown in the product name.
What do the letters C, M, F and XF mean?
The diamond grit: C coarse, M medium, F fine, XF extra fine. The finer the grit, the smoother the surface it leaves.
Can these burs be used in a contra-angle?
Only in speed-increasing (red ring) contra-angles that take FG burs. The burs in this category have an FG shank, for turbines; RA (latch) contra-angles use RA-shank burs, for example the RA extra-hard carbide bur set.
How do I clean and store the burs?
Clean them with the bur brush from this category, then sterilize them following the manufacturer’s instructions, in bur and file boxes with a sieve or in small sterilization pouches.
