Sterile in Sachets or Non-Sterile in Packs
Many swabs come in both versions. The 10 × 10 cm gauze swab, for example, is sterile in packs of 10, 25 or 50 and in sachets of 12 or 48 plies, and non-sterile, with 8 folds, in packs of 100. The 5 × 5 cm nonwoven swab is sterile in packs of 100 or in 32 sachets of two, and non-sterile in packs of 100. Each product states whether it is sterile and how it is packed.
Gauze or Nonwoven
Gauze swabs are made of cotton with folded edges. PPSB nonwoven swabs, made of polypropylene, are described as leaving less lint than woven material, and 30 g/m² nonwoven swabs can be cut without fraying, according to their description. Nonwoven also comes in large sterile sizes of 40 × 60 and 60 × 80 cm.
