Dental Finishing and Polishing Discs and Strips
For finishing and polishing restorations you will find discs from 9.6 to 15.9 mm, with their mandrels, and strips for interproximal areas: polyester or celluloid with aluminum oxide, steel and diamond. The range is completed by metal strips that protect the adjacent tooth and perforated strips for tartar. Brands include 3M (Solventum), Kerr, Microdont, Centrix, Edenta, Roeko and TOR VM. Discs
Sof-Lex XT 12.7 mm comes in four grits, OptiDisc Extra-Coarse in three diameters, 80 per pack, and the 12 and 14 mm discs are sold 40 or 50 per pack. According to the descriptions, the mandrels of the 14 mm discs are sterilized in a steam autoclave, 20 minutes at 132 °C, or with 6% hydrogen peroxide.
Metal strips
The 6 × 50 mm stainless steel protective strips, 100 per pack, go between the teeth so the adjacent tooth is not touched while you work with the bur. The 4 × 100 mm perforated strips, 12 per pack, are for removing tartar. Articulating paper is in articulating paper.
Frequently asked questions
Which strips can be autoclaved?
According to the descriptions, the PRIMA 4 and 6 mm steel abrasive strips, the Microdont steel strips, the Microdont diamond strips and Centrix GripStrip are autoclavable, and Edenta diamond strips can be sterilized. The Indusbello strip kit is single-use.
Why does GripStrip have two diamond areas?
To do two steps with the same strip: the 40 µm area removes excess material and the 15 µm area finishes and polishes. In the middle there is an inactive section that makes it easier to slide the strip between the teeth.
