Consistencies: putty and light body
ISO 4823 classifies elastomeric impression materials by consistency: type 0 putty, type 1 heavy-bodied, type 2 medium-bodied and type 3 light-bodied. In the two-step technique the impression is first taken with putty and then corrected with the light-bodied material; in the one-step technique both consistencies are applied together. In this category you will find putty (ZetaPlus, Oxasil, Elite HD+ Putty Soft, President Putty Super Soft) and light-bodied materials (Oranwash L and VL, Stomaflex Light, Elite HD+ Light Body, Variotime Light Flow, President Light and Extra Light).
Choosing an alginate
Alginates differ mainly in setting time and visual indicators. Hydrogum 5 is fast setting and, according to the manufacturer, scannable. Orthoprint is extra-fast setting with a vanilla flavour and is recommended by the manufacturer for orthodontics and paediatric dentistry. Chromatic alginates (Hydrocolor 5, Tropicalgin, Alginmax Chromatic, Alginplus Tropical) change colour through the working phases, which helps you keep to the timings. Most come in 453 g packs; exact working and setting times are in each product sheet.
Trays, tips and accessories
- perforated single-use plastic impression trays (S, M, L), trays for children and quadrant trays;

Impressions are disinfected before being sent to the lab; impression disinfection solutions and sprays (Aseptoprint, Zeta 7 Solution) are in instrument disinfectants.
