The Differences That Matter
- Spectrum. VALO Grand has a multi-wavelength LED, 395–480 nm, while GC D-Light Pro uses blue and violet LEDs, with two programs: High Power, 1,400 mW/cm², and Low Power, 700 mW/cm², for situations where heat must be limited, according to the manufacturer.
- Lens and access. VALO Grand has a 12 mm lens and VALO X a 12.5 mm lens, with a flat aluminum body. Elipar DeepCure-L has a light guide designed for access without opening the mouth wide, and Kulzer Starlight Pro an 8 mm fiber optic tip that rotates 360°.
- Assistance while curing. Ivoclar Bluephase PowerCure and G4 have Polyvision technology, which detects handpiece movement during curing and warns by vibrating. DentMate Ledex WL-090+ has a built-in radiometer and a caries and plaque indicator, a manufacturer feature, not a diagnosis.
- Modes and battery. Woodpecker O-Star has 7 modes, including Ortho and Check, X-Star has 8, Coltene SPEC 3 has an Ortho mode and runs 300 cycles of 10 seconds per charge, and Dentsply Smartlite Pro has interchangeable tips.
Composites and bonding agents are under restorative materials.
