Luer Lock syringes have a threaded tip onto which the needle screws, while Luer Slip syringes have a smooth conical tip onto which the needle is pushed. Luer Slip syringes also come without a needle, in 2, 5 and 10 ml, 100 per box, and 20 ml, 50 per box; for them there are blue non-sterile rubber caps, 100 per pack. Sterile hypodermic needles, from 18G × 38 mm to 30G × 13 mm, are under syringe needles.
Insulin and heparinized syringes
Insulin syringes are 1 ml, with a fixed 27G or 29G needle, a detachable 23G, 25G or 29G needle or no needle, or 0.5 ml with a fixed 30G needle, and come 100 per box (insulin syringes). The 2 ml heparinized syringes for blood gas samples are sterile, individually packed, 50 per box, and have an AUTOSTOP cap that lets you expel air from the sample.
Details from the product sheets
- PRIMA syringes have a clear barrel, easy-to-read graduations and a plunger with a rubber seal; the Luer Lock ones are individually packed.
- On Luer Slip syringes with a needle, the plunger can be broken after the injection so the syringe cannot be used a second time.
- The fitted needle is 25 mm long on the 2 ml and 50/60 ml syringes and 38 mm on the 10 and 20 ml Luer Slip syringes.
After use
The needle destroyer, 22 × 14 × 9 cm and over 4 kg, melts the needle at about 1,000 °C, and the residue drops into a tray at the base; the product sheet calls for replacing the carbon every 4,000 needles. Used needles and syringes with needles are collected in yellow 1–12 liter containers from plastic waste containers.
Frequently asked questions
Which needle comes with the 5 ml Luer Lock syringe?
A 22G needle. The 5 ml Luer Slip syringe has a 21G needle; both are sold 100 per box.
Can I buy syringes without a needle?
Yes: 2, 5, 10 and 20 ml Luer Slip syringes without a needle and the 1 ml insulin syringe without a needle. The needle is chosen separately, from syringe needles.
What are the rubber syringe caps for?
They close the tip of Luer Slip syringes for a short time, so the contents do not leak or get contaminated. They are blue, non-sterile, 100 per pack.
What cap do the heparinized syringes have?
An AUTOSTOP cap, which lets you remove air from the sample. The 2 ml heparinized syringes for blood gas samples are sterile, individually packed, 50 per box, with a Luer Slip connector.
