Directions for use
General preparation:
- Check that the size and capacity of the bag are suitable for the volume of blood to be collected.
- Open the outer aluminum package at the tear notches and remove one unit.
- Visually inspect the bag, tubing and needle to confirm they are intact and free of defects.
- Place the bag on a shaker or collection system, keeping it below the level of the donor's arm.
- Apply a tourniquet or inflate the pressure cuff, then disinfect the puncture site.
Collection:
- Secure the donor tube with a hemostatic forceps or a clamp below the donor needle.
- Remove the needle cap, keeping the tube and cap in coaxial position.
- Insert the needle into the vein, bevel up.
- Release the forceps to allow blood to flow.
- Agitate the bag regularly to mix the blood with the CPDA-1 solution.
- Once the specified volume has been collected, clamp the tube as close to the needle as possible and stop the blood flow.
- Remove the needle, strip the tube into the bag and seal the corresponding tube segments (sealing is done from the needle end toward the collection bag).
