What to check before ordering
- Length, given in centimeters in the name. Some instruments come in several lengths, for example Lister dressing forceps, 12.5, 15, 18 and 20 cm.
- Shape, straight or curved. For the Mathieu needle holder, the Halstead Mosquito forceps and the Museux forceps you choose the shape when ordering.
- Tips, sharp, blunt or one of each, as on the Lister bandage scissors.
- Sterility. Stainless steel instruments are reusable, and many descriptions list them as non-sterile or autoclavable. The sterile, single-use items are the biopsy punch, the marker, the stapler, the meshes and the kits.
Mesh, stapler and tourniquets
The sterile polypropylene surgical meshes, with small pores, come in 6 × 11 cm, 6 per pack, 7.6 × 15 cm, single or 6 per pack, 15 × 15 cm and 30 × 30 cm. The sterile skin stapler holds 35 metal staples of 7.3 × 4.2 mm. The tourniquets are elastic: synthetic rubber, 50 cm, textile with quick release, 2.5 × 40 cm, and a small cord tourniquet, 10 cm. Suture threads are under absorbable sutures and non-absorbable sutures, and instrument boxes under instrument boxes and trays.
