A disposable couch roll protects the examination couch or the massage table and is changed for every patient or client. The differences between rolls look small, but they show every day: the material decides whether liquids reach the mattress, the width decides whether the couch stays covered, and the perforation and length decide how many patients one roll will cover. This guide compares paper, polyethylene-laminated paper and non-woven fabric, explains the widths and perforations in the catalog and what Romania’s 2024 hygiene rules require in beauty salons.

The table compares the materials in the catalog, as they are described on the product sheets.

Which width to choose
- Measure the couch mattressThe width of the padded top of the couch or massage table, without the frame.
- Choose the roll closest to the mattress widthA much narrower roll leaves a strip of mattress uncovered; a wider one hangs over the edges.
- Check the roll holderIf you use a dispenser, the roll has to fit in it.
- Cover the face hole tooFor the head area of a massage table there are PPSB covers of 30 × 30 cm and 33 × 43 cm.
Long rolls mean fewer roll changes, but they are heavier: the 68 cm × 150 m non-woven roll weighs about 1.1 kg, according to its product sheet.
The perforation and how many patients a roll covers
The perforation shows you where to tear, not how much to tear. The couch is longer than one sheet, so for each patient you unroll several sheets. Count once how many sheets you usually use and calculate from there.
How to calculate
- If you unroll 5 sheets of 38 cm per patient, that is 1.9 m: a 50 m roll covers about 26 patients, a 70 m roll about 36 and a 150 m roll about 78.
- With paper perforated every 34 cm, 6 sheets make 2.04 m, and a 46 m roll covers about 22 patients.
- The cost per patient is the price of the roll divided by the number of patients. That is how you fairly compare a 46 m roll with a 150 m one.
Fitted sheets, bed linen and rubber sheeting
If you do not want a roll, there are ready-cut sheets. The PRIMA PPSB sheet, 90 × 225 cm, has elastic at the ends so it stays on the couch, and it also comes in a waterproof version laminated with polyethylene; both come in packs of 10. Other PRIMA PPSB sheets measure 80 × 180 cm or 160 × 220 cm, also 10 per pack, and the single-use bed linen set, made of 23 g/m² non-woven fabric, has a 200 × 160 cm fitted sheet, a 210 × 160 cm duvet cover and a 50 × 70 cm pillowcase. Abena also offers a waterproof 30 µm polyethylene bed cover, 90 × 210 cm, with elastic.
You can put rubber sheeting under the disposable sheet. The PRIMA synthetic rubber sheeting is 0.27 mm thick, waterproof and reusable, and it comes as a 0.9 × 10 m roll or as 90 × 100 cm and 90 × 200 cm pieces. Because it is reusable, you clean and disinfect it between patients. For rolls, the catalog has a metal dispenser that keeps the roll mounted and within reach.

In salons: what the hygiene rules require
For beauty salons, the rules are set out in the hygiene norms approved by Romanian Ministry of Health Order no. 1648/2024. Three provisions concern the treatment bed directly:
Single use art. 32Single-use materials, instruments, accessories and equipment are used for one client only and removed immediately after use.
Cloth towels and sheets art. 60They are washed in automatic machines with a thermal disinfection cycle, or by a specialized company under contract.
The treatment bed art. 60It is cleaned, then given low-level disinfection by wiping, at the concentration and contact time in the product instructions, then rinsed.
The other salon requirements, from instruments to the sterilization log, are explained in the guide below, and for a medical practice, the cleaning sequence between patients is in the guide to surface disinfection. Disinfectants for couches and work surfaces are in the surface disinfectants category.
Common mistakes
- Buying a roll without measuring the couchRolls come in 50, 58, 60 or 68 cm; a difference of a few centimeters shows with every patient.
- Comparing prices per rollRolls range from 46 to 150 m. Compare the price per meter or per patient.
- Using plain paper for treatments with oil or gelFor liquids, choose polyethylene-laminated paper or a waterproof sheet, or put rubber sheeting underneath.
- Keeping the sheet for the next clientIt is single-use: change it for every patient or client.
- Not wiping the rubber sheeting and the couch between clientsIn salons, the 2024 rules require cleaning and low-level disinfection of the treatment bed.

Frequently asked questions
What couch roll width do I need?
The one closest to the width of the couch mattress, measured without the frame. The catalog has 50, 58, 60 and 68 cm rolls. A much narrower roll leaves a strip of mattress uncovered, and a wider one hangs over the edges.
Paper or non-woven?
Two-ply cellulose paper tears easily at its 34 cm perforation. Polypropylene non-woven, 15 or 20 g/m², is described as hydrophobic and is perforated every 38 cm. For work with liquids, gels or oils, the catalog has polyethylene-laminated paper, described as waterproof.
How far apart are the perforations?
34 cm on two-ply paper, 38 cm on non-woven and about 38 cm on polyethylene-laminated paper. The perforation only shows where to tear; for one patient you usually unroll several sheets.
How many patients does one roll cover?
It depends on how many sheets you use. For example, with 5 sheets of 38 cm per patient, which is 1.9 m, a 50 m roll covers about 26 patients and a 150 m roll about 78.
Can I use the same sheet for two clients?
No. The sheet is single-use. In salons, the hygiene norms approved by Romanian Ministry of Health Order no. 1648/2024 require single-use materials to be used for one client only and removed immediately after use.
How do I look after the rubber sheeting?
The PRIMA rubber sheeting is reusable, so you clean and disinfect it between patients. For the treatment bed in a salon, the 2024 rules require cleaning, then low-level disinfection by wiping, at the concentration and contact time given in the disinfectant’s instructions.
