Product details

Synthetic suture, braided and coated from the middle, made of polyglycolic acid; it degrades by hydrolysis and provides predictable and reliable absorption.

The MEGASORB suture is coated with a blend of Caprolactone and Calcium Stearate.

It is dyed violet with an FDA-approved color additive. It is also available in an undyed version.

During hydrolysis, the glycolic acid polymer degrades and is subsequently absorbed and metabolized by the body.

For 14 days, tensile strength is maintained at 70-80%, then at 21 days strength is 50% of the initial value. There is a further loss of tensile strength between 4 and 5 weeks post-implantation. Complete absorption of the suture usually occurs between 60 and 90 days.

Applications:

The sutures are intended for use in the approximation and/or ligation of soft tissues, including use in ophthalmic surgery.
