Frequently asked questions
Which container should I use for a urine sample?
For urine culture there is the sterile 60 ml container, and for larger amounts the sterile 120 ml container. For laboratory urinalysis there are 10 ml tubes. The instructions of the laboratory performing the test take precedence.
What does the cap colour on a vacutainer mean?
It shows the additive in the tube: violet K3 EDTA (haematology), blue sodium citrate 3.8% (coagulation), black sodium citrate 3.8% (ESR), red clot activator and yellow clot activator with separator gel (biochemistry), green lithium heparin.
Are the throat swabs sterile?
Yes, all throat swabs in this category are sterile; some also have a transport medium, Amies or Stuart.
Do pipette tips fit any automatic pipette?
Check the compatible pipettes in the description. For example, the yellow 0–200 µl tips are described for Eppendorf, Brand and Socorex-type pipettes.
